First off, I'm telling you this. I was a Sony Playstation Fan way
before I even looked at The Sega Saturn. And when FF7 came out, I almost
didn't even care for the Saturn. But, I was given the Saturn as a
Christmas gift and later on bought a Converter to play Japanese Games.
Given the fact that I know the Japanese Language as well as I know
English, playing a Game like Grandia was not much of a problem.
Okay, I bought FF7, I played and was in love with the game, a week
later, I had some extra cash and ordered Grandia...because of all the
reviews I read of it.
Well, I was heartbroken, I was just nothing more than a wimpering child
with tear filled eyes staring at my TV. I could not believe that this
'Saturn' game was do wickedly cool stuff on my TV. I mean, given the fact
of the Saturn's limitations.
The Graphics were nice and very awesome. It gave me a sense of a true
RPG feeling, I mean...the setting, the place, the time...It was like
living in an RPG. I never had so much freedom in an RPG like so, not even
FF7. Although, the FMV could have been a little more smooth, but it's not
all that bad anyways.
While my eyes were filled with tears because of the Visual, my ears
were in Paradise with the most beautiful sounds of the game itself.
Everything just pieces together nicely, much better than the cheaply made
sounds of FF7. What I liked about the battles were the sounds, the
screaming ( voices ) etc. Something that FF7 lacked to make battle more
exciting.
The music was something to love, true RPG music. I feel that its just a
bit better than that of FF7 too.
I'm not going to bore you anymore about this as I am going to end this
Review shortly. I just want to say that even though the present Saturn
Situation is very gloom, if only SEGA had released this game here in the
US, I believe that it would have given the Saturn the recognition it
deserves. I know now that the Saturn isn't all that inferior to other Game
Systems, like I 'thought.' Proof is in this Game. Grandia on the Saturn,
beats FF7 on the PSX. Coming from a once 'only' Sony Junkie, I have seen
the light. I now expanded my Saturn Game Library and only wished that The
Saturn wouldn't have died so fast as it has now...I just started my Saturn
Life and wish it would have lasted longer...(Sigh)
If you Wanted me to give a Score for this game? I would give it a - 10
- As I would give FF7 a - 9 - .
Remember, this was a hard thing for me to do. I spent lots of time
raving and ranting about how good FF7 was, but I was changed...and knocked
across the face with Grandia. The Best RPG ever made, the humor, story,
grahics, sound/music, and gamplay. I just hope people will remember its
name when they look into the RPG History Book.
