Before I even became a casual gamer, I was neutral with Sega and Nintendo. Sega had the cool “Serious Fun” ads and Nintendo had Mario. Sega had the Mega Drive while Nintendo had the Super Nintendo. Either way, I wanted my parents to buy me a console and at the time I didn't care what I got. Then I saw the big blue blur, Sonic the Hedgehog. I rang dad and said “You must buy me a Sega” in a hypnotic tone of voice. On Christmas morning, I quickly unwrapped my present. It was a Mega Drive with Sonic the Hedgehog. I played it for hours on end. That's right, Sonic is the whole reason why I had become a hardcore gamer. Ever since the Mega Drive, Saturn owners had been crying out for a REAL Sonic game and unfortunately, it never came. This is partly the reason why the Saturn died. Sega has learnt a lot from the demise of the Saturn: You must have franchise titles, in particular a Sonic game. It is confirmed that the Dreamcast will have a 3D Sonic game named Sonic Adventure. It will have 2 classic levels and 23 levels altogether, ranging from Earth to Sea to Air. When Sonic first stepped into the gaming arena, he looked slick, cool, fast and he also looked like he could kick a certain fat plumber’s ass. I predict that on the DC, he will look even better with the DC literally pumping polygon power into the game. People all over the world are wetting themselves over the anticipation of playing the Sequel with no Equal. I believe that this game will incorporate the classic Sonic gameplay with all of the past stage elements: Bonus Level, Special Stage, Loop-de-Loop, Mid-Level Bosses, Chaos Emeralds etc. My wish list of options include a 1-4 player mode, Battle Mode, Debug Mode (cheat), Race Mode/Competition Mode, and a Multiplayer Mode. Like in all past Sonic games, a new innovation should be incorporated. Sonic 1 was an innovation in itself, Sonic 2 had 2 players on-screen at once, Sonic 3 was the first console game to have a Save Game option, and Sonic and Knuckles was the first Backwards-Compatible game. Sonic Adventure will also feature a new character in it. I can just imagine a wolf with sunglasses or something of the like. There is already heaps of
hype about it in magazines and on the internet. Everyone is marking August
22 on their calendars for the unveiling of the game. The Advertising
Campaign for Sonic has started in Japan. Yuji Naka describes this
game as “perfect”. This game will be epoch-making and anyone who
thinks otherwise should be...erm...crucified.
This Ultimate Adventure could fill the gap between the victory of the DC or PSX 2. As Sonic leaps into the future of the third dimension, he will open new doors to gaming as we know it. You never know, in the year 2006 Sonic could be running at 10 million polygons per second and 120 frames per second! -- Written By Adam |
