There are many other factors to be considered by Sega to ensure the overall success of the super-console, Dreamcast. The third party development of a system is very important and I think Sega is playing their cards right. Sega of Germany has announced that there are over 120 developers on the bandwagon, with more to come! This will ensure there will be many-a-game on the dream machine. When the PSX came out, it had many ads that brainwashed gamers - they were annoying, but effective nonetheless. Sega will be using $100 million US on advertising per continent and the makers of these ads are well-known in the biz. They are none other than the people who made the Levi’s ads. Online gaming is essential for this new piece of hardware and every other next-generation machine that follows. Sega have made sure it will not become the Netlink II and every game possible will utilise Internet/modem technology. Games like Quake Arena, Unreal, Duke Forever, Dune 2000, and Tiberian Sun spring to mind. Also, Sega are constructing a huge online gaming network in collaboration with Microsoft, so that you can play online games or download patches for them. DC’s arcade-perfectness means that the Lost World, Le Mans 24, LA Riders and many other Model3 games could even b improved before appearing on the machine. Some people think that the PSX2 will be more powerful than DC when it comes out, but the fact is, Sony’s machine may have begun development ages ago. The possibilities are that PSX2 is not as powerful or evenly powered when compared to the DC. I have searched the Internet far and wide and thee is no present chipset as powerful as PowerVR2. If Sony have already chosen their chipset, it will not be as powerful. Even if it is more powerful, there definitely won’t be much difference in technology or power. Sony will have to fork out a lot of dough to make their machine more powerful than Sega’s beast! The 1 GIG storage median is quite impressive. It opens up new doors for Role-Playing Games and FMV sequencing. This is why I am confident that Square will join the bandwagon. For all I know, they may already be on the wagon! Finally, an update of the early competition. The 64dd is ddDead, and the Dreamcast is reaping the benefits by receiving some of its third party games. The Project X’s support is dwindling already. MicroProse are leaving the “Big X” and are moving to DC development. Third parties are leaving ol’ X in the corner because they’re “having too much fun with the Dreamcast”. Well, that wraps up the final part of this subject. I will be following up on another editorial about Mr. Bernie Stolar of SOA. Look out for it! Sega Later! -- Written By Adam |
