Developed by Sega, The House of the Dead is a light gun shoot-'em-up. The mad Doctor Curien, who is being funded by the government, has discovered a way to raise the dead. Taking on the role of a secret agent you must blast your way into Curien’s gothic lab, save the innocent scientists within, and mow down hordes and hordes of angry zombies. With location-based hits, you can make those shots to the head count!

A translation of the arcade game, this Saturn version contains extra play modes and new characters. Modes of play include: Arcade, Saturn, and Boss. Arcade mode follows the arcade version providing only two characters for selection, Rogan or the mysterious G. Saturn mode introduces a number of new characters who vary in such characteristics as life meter and reload time. Boss mode skips the majority of the game allowing players to battle against each of the four bosses in order as they would appear in the game.

Roots & Influences:

The House of the Dead is another one of Sega's Arcade to home ports. Previous to The House of the Dead, Sega has ported such games as Daytona USA, Virtua Cop and Sega Rally Championship just to name a few. Virtua Cop and Virtua Cop 2 are both Arcade shooters that were developed previous to The House of the Dead and were likeyl two of the largest influences on the game.
