 Sonic Adventure Goes Gold

We're so excited, we can hardly contain ourselves!

August 26, 1999

Just a quick note to let you know that Sonic Adventure has gone gold. By now, you've probably heard everything there is to know about the game, from its amazing speed to its problematic camera angles, all the way to the recent announcement of expanded internet support for the U.S. version. For the record, here's Sega's official word on what you'll get when you shell out the $40 to $50 for the game on 9/9/99.

  • Fastest game ever in its genre

  • Six different characters (including two brand new ones), Six different styles of gameplay with six different endings, and Three Huge 3D worlds to explore with more than 30 attraction stages

  • Immense storyline allows players to see the story unfold from six different points of view

  • Extra objectives for added difficulty when replaying completed levels.

  • All-new Sonic moves including the "Light Speed Dash"

  • Numerous mini-games to expand the experience

  • Internet support: download special add-ons, post messages to bulletin boards, share tips and tricks with other Sonic gamers all over the world and upload high scores and see rankings. Players can also get special information on players. Additional downloads will be added through time.

  • Mini Games with Chao Characters: Using the adorable hidden "chao" (artificial life) creatures, gamers can explore an all new world using the Internet capabilities of the game. Create your own Chao creature, download it into your Visual Memory Unit (VMU) and nurture and grow it.

  • Upload and trade your Chaos: In the "Chao Daycare" area on the network, view Chaos crated by other gamers, send e-mail comments to them about their Chaos and even password protect your Chao so that only your friends can see it.

I've played through the import like a madman, but the new internet features are just too much to ignore, so it looks like I'll probably be picking up the U.S. version. Join me in the Chao daycare center?
