Japan Software Sales
Find
out how the Dreamcast is doing in Japan after the release of several
new games.
December 6, 1999
As
you may know, no less than five games were released for the
Dreamcast two weeks ago. With this being the start of Sega Japan's
Christmas campaign and last chance to sell a few more machines
before the PlayStation 2 arrives, it was very important that all of
them made an impact in the charts.
Thanks to IGN Affiliate Magic Box, we can tell you that they did
just that. Although it wasn't a huge one, every game managed to make
it into the top twenty-five. Leading the way at number six is
Maken X from Atlus, which sold approximately 66,000 copies.
Next up is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure from Capcom in ninth
position, with sales at around 52,000 units. Sega Japan's Zombie
Revenge made it into the eleventh spot, with 38,000 copies sold.
Moving down the list to fifteen, Formula One World Grand Prix
from Video Systems shifted almost 20,000 units, while the bizarre
Net Pachi: 10 Chances For A Las Vegas Vacation from Daikoku
reached twenty-third place, after selling over 12,000 units.
Basically, you can look at these results with two different
points of view. One is that the Dreamcast software is selling at a
decent pace overall, while the other is that major titles such as
Zombie Revenge should be selling a lot more, what with the
likes of Nintendo's Pocket Monster Gold and Silver
completely dominating the charts. The biggest disappointment though
has to be with Chu Chu Rocket, last week's number one, which has now
completely dropped out of the top thirty charts altogether.
With Virtual On and Virtua Striker 2000 both
receiving excellent scores from the Japanese press, we're very eager
to find out how well they'll do over the coming week. We'll be back
next Monday with the verdict.
