First Details on Worldwide Soccer 2000
We
have all the details on Silicon Dreams' first Dreamcast soccer
project.

Worlwide
Soccer was perhaps the last great soccer title to hit the Sega
Saturn. Although a sequel was released on the Play Station, Silicon
Dreams has returned to Sega-land to bring the latest in their series
to the Dreamcast.
Information on Worldwide Soccer 2000 has been kept quiet
thus far. Fortunately for all you soccer fans out there, though, we
went straight to the source, demanding at least some brief details
on what we can expect! First off, the commentary will be supplied by
Trevor Brooking, Peter Brackley and James Richardson. In case you
Americans didn't know, Brooking provides soccer commentary for BBC
Radio Five, while the latter two are regulars on Channel Four's
Football Italia.
By creating two different sets of controls, Silicon Dreams is
hoping to cater for both beginners and advanced football players.
With the former, this involves your basic forward shooting, passing
and tackling, while hardcore fanatics can try their luck with
combination moves and deadly passing tactics. Graphically,
Worldwide Soccer 2000 is promising to provide the most
realistic football game to date, as no less than 2,500 polygons will
be used for each individual player!
According to the developers, the stadiums have been rendered
superbly, with fully animated crowd movement and flags. Of course, a
visual wonder is all well and good, but what's the use if it's
running at the pace of a geriatric? Thankfully, the game's engine
will burn off a good 50 frames per second, free of slowdown. Dynamic
weather, which actually affects the way the game is played,
authentic crowd chats, ball noise and atmospherics will combine to
further enhance the experience.
Infograme's UEFA Striker failed to make a huge impression,
so we were hoping something better would arrive until Sega's home
conversion of Virtua Striker. Thankfully, it doesn't look
like we'll have to wait too long, what with Worldwide Soccer
2000 due out in Europe this December. We'll be back with a lot
more on this game over the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled
for some tasty screenshots.
