E32000: Sega Shows off Eternal Arcadia In
English
Unfortunately,
Sega's definition of "showing off" is to give the game lowest
possible
billing.
May 13, 2000
Sega
chose to show off Eternal Arcadia at the E32000,
but sadly gave the game only two stations. The version of the game
on display is the same as the demo shown and handed out at Tokyo
Game Show, so we'll refer you to our impressions from TGS, which
comes complete with direct feed movies and screens (see the link
below).
Actually, there's one major difference between the E3
Eternal Arcadia and the TGS Eternal Arcadia: language.
No, there's no swearing in either of them - Sega's just translated
the full text of the demo into English in order to give showgoers
the best experience. We're certain the text is early, but it's
already clean and mostly free of spelling and grammar errors.
It's unfortunate that Sega spent all this time in translating the
demo, then gave the game only two stations worth of show space.
Furthermore, unlike with titles such as Seaman, Jet
Set, and Shenmue, Sega placed the two Eternal
Arcadia stations amongst other random games, without any cool
little decorations. Alas, the result was that interest among
showgoers seemed to be very, very low throughout the course of the
show.
Come on, Sega - look at the characters, look at the world. And
for the love of god, don't you realize that Eternal Arcadia
can be abbreviated as EA, and you can thus say "EA is now on
Dreamcast" without being sued? Give this game the space it deserves!
