Cable Modem Downloads for Dreamcast

TOKYO - Sega has teamed with Jupiter Telecon, Japan's largest CATV company, to provide an experimental video-game-software download system via cable modems in Japan. The system will test the market for Dreamcast and broadband capabilities.

Before the end of this year, Jupiter Telecom will provide 200 cable subscribers in the Suginami district with free Dreamcast consoles and cable modems. Sega will then distribute games through the CATV network. Currently, it is not known what type of games will be available through the service, or when it will be expanded.

Jupiter Telemon is a joint venture of Liberty Media and Sumitomo Shoji. The company currently operates 22 CATV station all over Japan, with more than 485,000 subscribers.
