500,000 European Dreamcasts Sold and Counting!

Sega Europe has hit their latest milestone weeks ahead of schedule. The future is looking bright.

December 9, 1999

Breaking more records today, Sega Europe announced that it has now sold over a staggering 500,000 machines across Europe in less than two months, confirming its position as the fastest selling games console ever!

With no less than 150,000 online registrations to boot, the boys in blue have certainly reason to be happy. Sales now lie at around 180,000 in the United Kingdom, which is expected to rise to over 200,000 during the Christmas period, as sales throughout Europe are set to increase to over 650,000 by January.

Jean Francois Cecillon was delighted with their results so far, stating, "We're very excited about the phenomenal sales figures announced today and are looking forward to a strong Christmas period. Dreamcast is the first console with evolutionary capabilities. The console will continue to grow and change to match advances in technology, allowing it to further its development as a multi-purpose platform. The next generation console has arrived and everyone at Sega Europe is proud to be part of it."

With their next target of 1 million sales, we're confident that goal will be achieved in time for Easter next year. Now, with success in America and Europe, here's hoping the situation in Australia and Japan will improve quickly.
