Five Reasons We Like the Dreamcast

Reason Three - The Games: So Much
Goodness, We'll Forgive the Couple Duds
The Dreamcast launched with an extremely strong
library of titles. We've had a chance to try just about
everything that's been released -- from the friendly
cheesiness of Ready 2 Rumble to the total insanity of
the new Sonic to the utter crap that is Mortal Kombat 4.
Okay, we'll forgive them Mortal Kombat 4. But there's
still a lot to rave about.

Uhm, maybe Pen-Pen didn't translate
from Japanese very well... The Dreamcast
opening lineup isn't all roses, but there are
still a handfull of massive hits to choose
from.

Shaithis: Soul Calibur really impressed me.
And, in terms of 'Fun as hell to play if you don't know
anything about it,' NFL Blitz 2000 was a lot of fun.
Sonic definitely had some cool parts, but I'm more of a
fan of how they did Mario 64, where you can wander
around more and you're not on a direct path. The Penguin
game [Pen Pen TriIcelon] just creeped me out. I didn't
see very much of it, but the penguin-type thing running
around with the dog's face was more than enough.
Tungsten: Soul Calibur had to be the best one.
NFL Blitz 2000 was great, too, it's hysterical to
watch...
Sluggo: Sonic is great, I loved the old Sonic
games and this certainly seems like it adds a lot with
the 3D world. Sort of like Heretic II meets Sonic the
Hedgehog. NFL 2K is a very serious game, tremendous
graphics, a good football game for people who take it
seriously. Soul Calibur is fantastic, it just looks so
good you want to dig into it more and more, I can't get
enough of it. Some of the games? Not so good. Pen Pen's
TriIcelon? It's just such an odd title. Some of the
games were just horrible. Blue Stinger, it was so bad it
was almost comical, it was everything wrong -- a badly
acted, badly written piece. Like something from MST3K.
Despite a few klunkers in among the titles, there are
some amazing hits in there, a little for everyone. Soul
Calibur may very well be the best fighting game to ever
hit a console, rendered stunningly and twice as good as
the arcade. For sports fans, you've got NFL 2K, an
amazing football sim, or NFL Blitz 2000, with ridiculous
over-the-top arcade action. And action game fans should
love Sonic, an addictive game that captures all the
speed of the originals.
