I have alot of problems with the DC network. I got it for x-mas. I had no idea they had NO online gaming up yet. Guess i did'nt do my homework. I have found the DC network not user freindly at all, I had a heck of a time just getting registered. & they just seem to make everything harder than it has to be for some reason. it's chuck full of bugs & idiosyncricies. My number problem with DC network is NO CUT & PASTE! Thats crazy to me. I thought that was just a basic keyboard function. Is the new browser going to have cut & paste? I don't expect this new browser before summer actually. Things seem to always get delayed. The current browser is really bad i think, it's hard on the eyes. a friend of mine who has a compuer saw it & said the look of it is totally unacceptable. I travel alot on my job, It's kinda a pain to re-set it up for local acess numbers. I have Webtv now, & Webtv finds the local acess numbers for you. In fact,,Webtv blows the current DC broswer away. I was planning on giving webtv to a friend, cuz DC was going to have everything i want, but I see it's going to be several months before that happens, I'll just get back on DC network then. & not be frustrated in the meantime. I love online gaming, I used to have x-band & loved it. I really hope the online gaming has alot of sports games when it gets going. I'm not into role playing stuff.
I think the DC Pwchat IRC stuff is horrible,,talk about hard on the eyes! yikes. & i've learned to never type /list on a big server. The thing goes haywire. Webtv's IRC set up is 1000X better. I really hope the new browser addresses that. Plus, on DC network, if you go to the recent thing where you just were on the net, it does not list IRC's. so you have to type the pwchat:// crap all over again. My DC network freezes alot. & i have to shut it off & start over. the Moden is sometimes real fast, but real slow alot of times too. Webtv is like a train. just keeps chugging. My e-mail on DC network would not let me in for like 3 days & took me 3 calls & alot of time on hold to Att to get it solved. like i said, bugs galore in this thing. It just seems like it was rushed to market. & noody seems to know the answers to questions at Sega or Att.

Click here for a letter I sent to Sega ( support@dreamcast.com ) with a bunch of gripes about their browser. I doubt they read it, but it might interest you guys.

chester, you've got some good idea's, buddy. Instead of having them fix Dejanews, I'd rather them just include a news reader. They've created one for the NetLink, but vowed never to release it because some of the thext would go to the right of the screen... but who cares? We have to put up with that on several other web sites anyways.

PlanetWeb hasn't fixed the Stop button if four years, good luck with that one. Better get used to pressing reset, (figuartively speaking, of course).

Oh, same goes for that darn e-mail freeze.

I don't know why we have that book mark problem, (the one where it book marks an image), they fixed it on the NetLink, but they let it slide on the Dreamcast... I'll bet that'll be one of the bug fixes in the new upgrade.

Skewer, I read your letter, you've got some valid points, and other things are just plain foolish... Like who cares if it says Doc***ent Sorce on a .txt file? That is what you are looking at. Any hoo, I did think you had alot of good suggestions, and alot of the bugs you discovered need to be corrected. However, your letter has fallen on deaf ears at Sega, if you want anyone who cares to read it, send it to PlanetWeb. bugs@planetweb.com

And trrnt.man, you've got to be kidding me. It's a Sega, a video game system, that's what it was designed for, that's what it is good at, and it is the best at it. Enjoy it for what it is, not what it does on the side. And PlanetWeb will improve on the browser.

"Like who cares if it says Doc***ent Sorce on a .txt file?"

And it would take one minute to change that. I think it's odd that you can't view the source of webpages, but that still says "do(ument source." How stupid can you get? As stupid as this message board?

And #1, give us what we had with XBAND. Playing Sports online with that great challenge system is gaming to the max. Keep your eye candy. Defeating real humans and talking trash totally destroys jerkin around with the CPU.

PWMaster's not the same. You have to use a special service (which can go up and down just like any other service) and they can track everything you do on there (possibly steal your websites!). I think all the PWM stuff should be built into the browser.

Little addendum, it's not like there's not enough room for it. PlanetWeb takes up about 500KB out of the 1GB disk!

Planetweb wont track anything your doing(did you read their security policy?). Infact they couldnt(Its a cgi script, in order for them to get any information on you they would have to have it upload your info to a file on their server everytime you or anyone else uses it and they do not have that kind of storage) And i dont see how they would go about it on the browser when your transfering webfiles. PWmaster logs on the server does the commands and dissconnects everytime u do an action. If it were on the browser you'd be idle all the time and be getting kicked off the ftp server.

It's not like the Dreamcast has enough memory to run the PWMaster off of its own HD and do everything that it does, and everything that PlanetWeb plans on it doing.

The though of PlanetWeb stealing any of your web sites is laughable. Cris Beck is an excellent web master, I don't think he or or anyone at PW would want to steal any of our amature web pages.

Err... Ripsaw, I'd say that the NL 4.0 and the DC browser are about equal in quality.

I have to disagree with that. The Only adnatage that the Dreamcast browser has over the Netlink 4.035 Beta is that the Dreamcast Browser shows pictures as good as a PC. But The DReamcast locks up so many freakin times on the internet it stinks and also alot of Webpages don't come out right. for instance here is an example. Visit this webpage on your netlink then visit on your Dreamcast then your PC.
I must warn you this is a PORN page that shows a Womans breast.
http://www.nubianqueens.com/
Now don't tell me its the webmasters fault that that page won't load correctly. Its the Dreamcasts fault.

Chester, please allow me to explain what I meant by "equal in quality".

You're correct, one of the DC's advantages over the NetLink is that it has a color table much higher than that of the Saturn, so that web pages and images are much, much nicer looking.

The Dreamcast also has the /ignore command in IRC, it also supports JavaScript 1.1, and has a 56k modem vs. the NetLink, which is a 28.8. (But I get higher connection speeds with my NL for some reason.)

Now, the NetLink does have alot of advantages of the Dreamcast, so many I probally won't even be able to think of them all. As you
pointed out, pages locking up is a much more of an issue on the DC than the NL.

The NL has a handly little tool bar that offers the options to disconnect, turn images on and off, and redraw a page. The tool bar can be activated simply by pressing the "i" button on the key board. The DC has none of these features.

The NetLink has more key board and controller functions. It has a space, backspace, "/", and shift all on the c-pad!!

With the NL, you can e-mail saved game files, a feature that I was shocked not to see for the DC.

With all of these things weighed out, it is my oppion that the Dreamcast, and an internet tool, and NetLink are equal in quality.

Quick note... the DC does NOT support /ignore on IRC. The manual says it does, but it doesn't.
