I'm afraid I think it's a scam. A, PDS is known in Japan as Azel: PD. B.... uh, it's just a general feeling of too good to be true. Or that some games should not be tainted by possibly sub-par sequels.

Yikes! Certainly looks believable from that picture. But I don't believe it. I hope it, but I don't believe it. Any time news is broken over net forums like this, I don't believe it. I refuse to get my hopes up, I suggest you all do the same. Did I say I don't believe it? IP: Logged |

Hrmm, I dunno. It's well done if it is fan art, which I sort of think it is, if only because the style is slightly different than the Panzer guy. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Please be true!!!!! I don't believe it, but Azel is now fully human, but she kinda looks like an elf. Human for what ever Edge's people are, is what I meant. I want this game to happen so bad, it hurts. I will weep tears of joy, when SEGA announces the sequel. That's a great looking poster. Whether it is a fake or not, that is one quality piece of artwork. [This message has been edited by Dural (edited 12-02-2000).] IP: Logged |

Okay, this really has me thinking. There is an "Azel" on the poster itself, and the art is absolutely astonishing... perhaps they don't have the webpage up yet, but only the official art completed? *Hold me someone* I getting all a-tremble.
I really am sad, aren't I? But just the mere thought has me neglecting any
priority right now.

Would all of you like to know how pathetic I am? It's 4:21 AM where I live and I cannot SLEEP because of this thread. Add to that fact I'm supposed to be writing academic discourse. I want this game to happen and the artwork looks too legitimate. WHY DOES IT LOOK SO GOOD? Can anybody translate the various Japanese characters? IP: Logged |
| Galford Member |
I'll give it a shot at translating Visual Memory with Coupon Then it says Sorry to say this, but it is a scam. My Japanese may be a little rusty but that ad makes no sense at all!

Maybe I'm only wanting it to be true too much, but some of the translation does make sense: "Visual Memory with Coupon Cyber Coupon Saga II Bonus! http://www.sega.co.jp/saga/ Commencement At Joypolis" Maybe this means you can get a special edition VMS with the coupon you can optain at the link (even though it's currently dead) if you come to Joypolis? "Water Azel Phosphorous" Couldn't phosphorous mean something along the lines of fire/light? That would place Azel between two elements. Given her role in Saga, it wouldn't be completely off. Don't the random characters mean anthing at all? Kensai I think its a lost cause. The original team members have split
up all over the [This message has been edited by Three of Nineteen (edited 12-03-2000).] IP: Logged |

Forgot to add. The character designer and the lead programmer for Panzer Dragoon Team left Sega. They are currently working for Hudson soft and are currently making a game for the Game Boy Advanced called Pinobee. http://www.tendoproject.com/oct00/481.shtml

My wife says that the characters under the picture mean (below the "saga continues": "Photo album of Yoshitoshi (or Yoshitaka)Abe". Very misterious Ron IP: Logged |
| Galford Member |
Ronald, I wonder if that's where the picture came from. Then someone added the extra Panzer Dragoon related elements to make it look like a new sequel was being. There is a Yoshitoshi Abe that worked on Playstation game called Lain (which is based on an anime of the same name). Here's what else I dug up. He has worked on the Furu-Machi ("Old Town") CD-ROM/Artbook, the Lain Playstation designs, the "WachenRoder" SEGA Saturn game, and other commercical and non-commercial works. I wonder if that's where the artwork came from... Hmmm... now I'm not so sure anymore [This message has been edited by Galford (edited 12-03-2000).] IP: Logged |

I think its a scam. Why would they change Azels look so much. And all the text is onecolor paintbrush, very 'fanart' like. IP: Logged |

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! We been had, hoodwinked . . . Plymouth Rock has fell upon us. It is real funny, but when I first looked at that picture, i was trying to figure out where i had seen that pic before. Then after the refernces to Abe-san and Lain were made, I realized where I had seen this pic before. There is a similer pic (but not quite the same one) that I had seen in a copy of either Gamefan or Gamers Republic (I can't remember which one as they both review anime) quite a while back. Now this just may be able to be attributed to similer art styles considering that its by the same artist. It does not automatically mean that the pic is a hoax, but things do begin to look a wee bit . . . darnit!!!! Just take it with a grain of salt. I really hate when people play with my emotions this way. Its just not right!!!!! <pathetic img of Core 238 weeping like a child> </pathetic img> Considering that Team Andromeda is broken up, I sometimes have mixed feelings about a sequel for Panzer Saga. While part of me wants it more than any other game that anyone could ever possibly announce anytime in the next 20 years, part of me is affraid that a new team may not realize fully the vision that was Panzer Saga. I mean, the battle system alone, made this game better than the entire Final Fantasy Series, Phantasy Star Series, Dragon Warrior Series Ultima Series and Shining Series all combined. In all honesty, to quote Next Generation (from back in the days when they were actually a good rag), "Panzer Dragoom Saga is what RPGs will be like in the future." Its just that far advanced to anything that has ever been out and that is currently out there now, and that even includes Skies of Arcadia. SoA is a great game, and I love it to death, but even in all its greatness, it still does not hold a candle to Panzer Saga. And friends when I say that, I do not exagerate. So you can see, why I'd be a bit anxious with the idea of another team that was not Andromeda creating the sequel (if there is to be a sequel). There is a lot to live up to (almost too much). But at the same time, I feel for SEGA to finally regain the respect they deserve as the best creators of RPGs on the planet, then a sequel to Panzer Saga is a must. The original came out on a failed system . . . hard to garner respect for your programming prowess if the system that you are programming on, is already dead (and how many idiots kept telling me that Triple play Baseball was the best baseball series on the planet . . . dumb idiots never once got their hands around a copy of WSB1, 2, or '98 for the Saturn, had they, then, well you see my point). but now that DC is here and it is a runaway success, a game like Panzer Saga 2 on this system would sell like crazy and SEGA's rep is the best creator of RPGs on the planet, will once again be restored . . . only if the Panzer Saga sequel is handled correctly. <crossing fingers>

Another pointer that this is a fake, posted by WFROSE on the DC-United Forum: "Just found out, good money's on the possibility that this is a fake.... Friend of mine just informed me that he has this picture in his hentai
gallery on his No, just realized the picture IS a fake. studied it a bit and noted the
none too In other words, the [censored] must SUFFER!!!!!!!" Also the date 04.04.01 could mean 1st of April 2004. I'm not sure about Japanese date conventions, how does a date like that read in Japanese? Is it yy.mm.dd or mm.dd.yy? IP: Logged |

"Church of Atolm" A church centered around an evil dragon. Yikes! "Why would they change Azels look so much." Well that is easy to understand, if you understand how climatic the ending of PDS was. Since the towers no longer exists, and she somehow survived, that I think she was transformed into a human. She is an origanic creation, so it quite possible, that her DNA or whatever could have been adjusted. It really quite surprising she survived at all, considering the tower's destruction, and she was in the center of it, when Edge/Divine Visitor went to battle Sestrel. Anyway it could be a piece of artwork that does not represent too clearly how she looks in the game in 3D. This has been done before, and I even saw it in Cannon Spike last night, at the arcade, where 2D art represents the characters in the presentation screens, but in game there are 3D models that do not look anything like the presentation art. Well it probably is a fake after what 3of19 has dug up. SEGA has to realize that this game is so huge in the west, and since the west is now carrying the DC success, SEGA should strongly consider making this game. My VMU is screaming: "What a disappointment!". IP: Logged |

::sigh:: waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! come on please sega get that team back together. get the sesigners and writers atleast! and make some games come on, the west is your saving grace here. those japanese kids dont deserve all the cool limted editions tuff you give them send some blessings ou way starting with a PDS convertion to DC and then look into getin' us a sequel in the same mold. Oh yeah, I really think that image at the top of this thread is just wishful thinking. I also feel Azel is the single finest RPG experience to be had anywhere on the planet!! [This message has been edited by wander (edited 12-05-2000).] IP: Logged |

Ahhhh! Hey wander, please be sure that when your game is announced, you tell
us that it's the game you were talking about. Please? And please let it be an RPG! Oh please! akira IP: Logged |

Every time wander posts I get a warm, fuzzy feeling. Whatever they have up their sleeves must be something special, even if it's not Saga Zwei. I think we all await the day when he can spill the beans. Wander, I know it's been mentioned before, but again, if ever the former Andromeda folks look down or discouraged, please pass on to them how much we all love and appreciate their work, and look forward to whatever they have in store for us next. Perhaps if attention does ever shift from the domestic market, the
powers that be will realize the potential that exists over here for a
sequel (Grandia II is coming, after all), but until then, we'll just have
to wait and rumor-monger. Damor IP: Logged |

Hmmmm.... not a sequel to anything??? Well, prequels aren't sequels.
Reading all of your replies about the possiblity, and your remembrances of the original PDS make me steam with jealousy. I have never played the original, and I have wanted to so badly. I even bought a new Saturn because my old one bit the dust just so I would have one to play PDS if I ever came across a copy I could afford. Now that is pathetic. If anyone wants to let me "borrow" their copy for, say, 2 months, I'll
sign over my first born as collateral. IP: Logged |
| Anthony Member |
I can't let you borrow my last copy, since it's still in shrink wrap.
But you can find copies on Ebay yet: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=514267936
Sure, not cheap, but it IS one of the best RPGs of all time. Hey Wander, You guys should make a sequal, then keep a whole bunch of copies for yourselves. Then, a few years later, you can sell them on Ebay for $120US each. ^_^ With the right marketing Grandia2, Skies of Arkadia, Shenmue, or Azel2 could easily be big sellers over here in the US. Heck, I could port Saga1 to DC and sell at least 250K without too much effort in ads. Oh well, not happening.
