I wish this had happened to me. I'll be damned if I let anyone
assault me, imprison me, rob me, humiliate me in public, and let
them get away with it.
'uneasyrider' has it right 'undefined', you
were humiliated in public, where other shoppers could think you
were caught in a criminal act. Why else would the store director
be acting the way he was? You were being portrayed as a criminal
by store management, so some kind of restitution maybe should be
forthcoming? Imagine if people from your church saw you, or
people from your job, or even your neighbors, why they might be
led to think, because of what was happening, that you were doing
something criminal. Your reputation has been tarnished.
This is a valid point. One which I will bring
up with the Regional Vice President (expecting a call in the next
little bit). My wife commented on the same thing - while I was
caught up with defending my rights, I was being made to look like a
criminal by the store management. I feel confident that I was in the
right in my actions and position, and as someone who has never been
arrested (or even detained by law enforcement) it does make me feel
uncomfortable and embarrassed.
As an update - I received a
voicemail while at lunch that the regional vice president has been
made aware of the situation and will be calling me today. I will
keep everyone updated on how that goes.
Again, please, I
understand the sentiment about firing the manager. What everyone
needs to understand is that it is not my call, nor should it be. How
Circuit City deals with their internal human
resources issues is dictated by one customer who was wronged. I
believe that I am owed an apology - not a termination letter (for
the store director).
With regards to "sticking it to them" -
I feel that is what I am doing already. I have contacted their
senior management and will explain things to them. I have spoken
with my attorney regarding civil litigation (I would rather it not
come to that). In a few short hours (unless CC makes a hell of a
convincing case) I will file a police report. At the moment, the
ball is in their court.
Let me ask everyone here a
question - would you prefer Circuit City to pay out a single cash settlement to
one customer who was treated improperly, or would you prefer Circuit City to create a formal plan (and implement
it) to improve their customer relations and management
training?
I would really appreciate opinions on the above
question.
