I've been reading this forum alot, and the #1 complaint is micromanagement. Here's how I handle it.

1. Bookmark each store
so that you can surf around to each village easy.
(Ctrl + #) 1-7 only
Then just hit 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. to check on each village.

2. Exploit the wood and food miracles!
The manual states, "Click the Action Button repeatedly to create more timber (food)". They are not lying. The trick to exploiting this is to cast the spell over the entrance of your store (not over the wood pile) in short repeating taps. (It kind of works over the wood pile at the workshop, but I get better results at the store.) It will take you a while to milk the whole miracle. I emptied the store once and then cast the spell again to see exactly how much I was getting. I got 19,010 from one wood spell. My stores have 90,000 of grain and wood... each. You don't get quite as much grain from the food miracle, but you need more wood anyways.
I don't even bother with trees or fields anymore.
Note: you can't do this on level 1 because you don't have these spells. But supplies aren't much of a problem on level 1.

4. Take a bunch of grain to each worship area of your temple(I do 6,000 each to shut them up for a long time.)

3. Take as much wood as you can hold (20,000) over to the workshop

4. Repeat wood miracle at store to bring that wood flag down again.

5. If you see Zzzz flags at the temple you can use the heal miracle. Voila! Who needs sleep?
The other stuff I found most useful was using the following keyboard shortcuts.
1. Bookmarks for all the stores and one workshop (kind of mentioned this already.) I will also try to save the 7 bookmark for the scroll I'm working on. I found it a pain to try to find my way back to the guy who wants his sheep, etc.
2. The "c" key to zoom to my creature and find out what he's up to (his damage, hunger and tired bars also pop up)
3. The "l" key to attach the leash to me. If I need him I just hit l key and then click the ground. "Come here boy."
4. The "v" or "b" key to rotate through the leashes. I'll often click l then v to switch leash types if necessary.
5. Double hit the space bar to take you back to the temple and check if your worshipers need anything.

This last part isn't about easing micro management, but if you're trying to win over a tribe by being good, do not overestimate artifacts. The first thing I do in a board is find some big rock to put near my first totem. After a couple of "days" they start glowing and will soon get your symbol above them. Take them to the village you want to win over and attach your creature with the leash of compassion. Lots of belief points.

Then take it back your village (they give you belief because you gave it back) and then use another one of your artifacts for the next village.

How can it be 4 in the morning? I just started playing!

I don't get it. You're the second person I heard talk about "repeatedly clicking". When I got in game, I tried repeatedly clicking compared to just holding the button down and got precisely the same amount.

Well I'm not positive if you're doing it differently or if I just have a FANTASTIC bug when I play, but it only works when I do it over the bump of the entrance of the store. I've also found that occasionally a store does not get as much out of it (1 in 5 stores maybe). If I get a store that just doesn't seem to do it, I'll do it to a store that does and transfer.
But for all I know you're in a higher level and my trick stops working. I'm only up to (just starting) level 4. If that's the case, I'm going to be VERY sad VERY soon. Or just turn evil and start sacrificing children. :-)

How can it be 4 in the morning? I just started playing!

Hate to break this to you, but you ARE on the higher levels! There's only one more level after 4.

What happens after level 5? Do you just get to play online and in skirmish games?

You can do this on level 1, at least with teh Food Miracle, if you get the food miracle dispenser.

Oh, and thanks for spoiling the ending to the game in your final post.

He didn't spoil the ending blight, you should thank him for the waring. If you would have read a few more post you would have figured it out anyway.

This wrecked creature is a bug (at least I hope it is).
So you'd best wait for a patch or play scirmish games. Just don't go to level 5.

Well, the fact that your creature gets screwed up isn't a bug.

You can do the clicking trick right on the workshop. No more hauling wood back and forth. I think it always works. Try clicking really fast.

When my wood is really low and charge rate is low, I find it faster to transport. If I have a fast recharge, the fact that I seem to get less at the woodshop is worth it if I don't have to transport.

ps Sorry if some felt the level 5 was a spoiler. But I don't think I gave away a plot twist or ways to solve puzzles. I warned you not to go to level 5 and throw away days of gameplay.

well i'm on level 3 and when i cast the wood spell and just hold down the button on the store i get roughly 9000 wood. is it that you have a norse wonder and that's why you get so much? i kind doubt that you get more from the a spell by clicking instead of holding down the button. i know when you have the norse wonder your wood spell gains a whole lot more.

I thought this was a bug till I saw it in manual. I have gotten (with practice) 12,000 without wonders and with Norse wonder 26,000 wood. But I also notice that some times it will simply not work on some places on the map. Then I only get 1500-3500 and my hand starts to pick up after the 3rd, 4th click.

This is what PBW says.

Big Bug

Wednesday, April 4, 2001, 04:16 | Posted by Scrozzy

Patrick-Michel Dagenais sends warning of the following bug:
Once you get to the Level five village, your creature will stay cursed forever. No matter what you do, it seems, even if the game tells your the curse is lifted, you are still going to be stuck with it.

Bummer. After doing some research, I've found that this so called 'curse' renders your once mighty creature into a sniveling little maggot that's no bigger than one of your villagers. Fear.

so it is a bug and its a nasty one.

There's no need to bookmark the stores. Hitting the tab button cycles you though them. Very handy just for jumping from one village to the next.

Touch my monkey, love him!

Dantes you bastard! That's my name :)
Well not lately really, but I used that name about 8 years ago on a mud named sojourn...was the top player >:)

Anyway this trick you mention, I was thinking it was a bug because I found out how to do it another way.
This also works on buildings currently being built. If you see a building being built, create the wood miracle and just tap-tap-tap the right mouse button away and you get up to around 20k wood. This works for food too.

However, another thing brought me around to thinking it was a bug and not builtin. The food miracle works "better", in fact it works forever. I got around 200,000 grain by doing the wood miracle on a village store as it was being built. I could have kept going but got tired of clicking. When I have done this with wood, I can never get over 20k.
