A lot of people seem to be upset with the difficulty of being on the side of right. Too much micromanagement, constantly griping villagers...it isn't easy, but it's far from impossible and the rewards are incredible.
You see, being good is all part of the mindset. It isn't any harder than being evil; you just have to think about what a good god would really do, and follow the game's precept of not being seen as a soft, cuddly pushover.
Think about it like this. Wood, the resource most in demand by your villagers, is found all around the island. They want it, they need it, and they'll complain constantly if they don't have it. The most basic solution is to rip up every tree on the island and chuck it in the bin.
But would a good God do that? No way. You're the god of a land, not just a people. Think about that. Deforestation=bad. You have to be ecofriendly. Try this; instead of relying on the wood miracle, use rain and forest.
Plant trees near your fields, water the fields...voila! Food and wood. Wood emergency? Think forest. With three or four trees at your worship site, it seems the forest miracle is MUCH more effective. Don't coddle your people: they have to learn to help themselves, or you are doomed to fail. Use rain, and make them do the work. And if your creature pitches in, expect your one rain miracle to be cast three or four more times with a little encouragement.
This works, I promise. If you have any questions, email Spiderjeru@hotmail.

I deforested my entire area...then I keep on using the forest miracle if I get PO'ed and use the multi tapping wood miracle...and I still have a positive alignment. I just put my creature on the compassion leash and attach him to the town center and then I go off and help build buildings and set up farms and stuff...and i'm on Land 2 and my village is going to be sprawling half my influence before I go for Lethys cuz that's what a good god would do
...but I don't have anyone worshipping yet, I just sacrifice the little kids for 12k prayer each

Sounds like some good advice. I always find that I lose alignment because my people are upset at me. I just can't keep up with their desires. I guess I won't do the multi-tap wood exploit anymore and let them do work on their own.

I found level 2 much easier the second time round, level 2 was really hard the 1'st time
whinge whinge whinge about wood :(
how can you claim that putting trees near the praying people will make a better forest miracle? - do you know this for a fact?? is this an official hint?

What other resource hints do you know of?

Has anyone got their creature to cast a forest miracle yet?
(big spell, wondered if he would be able to do it?)

yes it's official

look for a signpost behind your worship sites icon, it says that putting nice "stuff" in your woship sites gives you more power, i allways load up with big trees and a few pretty rocks.

also one signpost said that putting nice stuff in your creatures pen is good, however that tends to piss me off as large trees keep getting in the way when i'm trying to reward/punish my creature, timing seems pretty crucial in that aspect

oh yeah, and yes your creature can cast any spell you can cast. it's just a matter of teaching it to him.

Thanks for the tips. I had decided to reload a game I saved in the first land b/c I noticed my creature didnt help as much as I thought he should. I spent more time teaching him the second time around and even finished the sheep and stranger quest. It was much more rewarding the second go around. I am about to jump back in the portal again. I will certainly be giving your hints a go.
Thanks again

No, the hint about trees in the worship site wasn't official, but it worked for me. This game is way too hard to predict at the moment for me to say for sure, but with two trees planted at my worship site my forest miracle generated twice the trees it had before. I noticed more gain from this than I did from even the Celtic wonder (or was it Japanese?) that supposedly enhances the forest spell. If you can document this, by all means let everybody know it's official. I don't have any way of doing so, sorry.
Btw, i tried putting stuff in my creature's pen, but the one bad habit his sparkly self has picked up is whacking the worshippers with anything he can find on hand in his pen...including trees, which is funny the first couple of times. He's also NEVER pooped...that's starting to worry me. Maybe there's an X-lax quest? :)

i don't think pooping matters. the first time my tiger tried it, i smacked him around. haven't seen him poop since, although he might be doing it behind my back. anyway, he's perfectly healthy despite not pooping

not pooping will stunt his growth (put a pile of grain on the ground somewher eand attach your creature with the leash to it, he will poop even if he never has...

and it is OFFICIAL putting pretty objects at your worship sites increases spell power

If the "put pretty things on worship site"-effect works, I'll try to use an artefact. That certainly is considered pretty!

BTW, I'm not sure how to make one. I accidently did on land 1 (I could tell because statistics said I had 10 artefacts *somewhere*)
Right now I'm trying by putting a rock in the altar (you know, where you sacrifice people) If you do there's a electric-sparks like sound, but maybe that's because I'm trying to sacrifice something unsacrifisable : D

Hey! maybe you can turn a tree into an artefact that way. Then plant it in the center of your village, and it will grow until it looks like that location in Icewind Dale!
(BTW, if you didn't notice, I'm just fantasizing here)

azza: i've tried your suggestion to make my tiger poop. i attached him to a pile of food several times, waited a few minutes, nothing happened. he just stood there looking confused.

artifacts are simple. Pick up a rock and put in infront of the town centre or near your worship site. Every night the villagers will do square dancing (why! WHY SQUARE DANCING!) around it and eventually it will become a artifact. I like to hotkey enemy towns, pick up an artifact, use the hotkey (I just have enough virtual influence to drop the artifact) to zoom to thier town and drop the artifact. They all start praising it and they become MINE in no time. Either that or I burn them Good only goes so far.

As far as being a (fairly) good god, with a very good creature, I'd have to agree that artifacts rock my world. I started making them for the higher requirement places in act 3, and I can take their charged selves through the portal to the next world. Ha ha ha ha...

I'm not sure, but I think that the bigger the artifact, the higher it can be 'charged' with your holy might. I had these big stone heads from level three, and the biggest one can net me a cool 300 beliefe in one go. This is kind of silly, since I can pick it up and drop it again for another 200, and again for another 100, till it's 'charge' seems to be getting low (then I drop it back in my village, don't let anybody get hit by it, unless you want that little 'extra' belief). I usually get 60 belief from the villagers who charged it, and continue on from there. And that's just my good artifact, with a few others, I can gank big cities from the computer in a short span of time. Also, being good helps you make artifacts in that, my one village that was annoyed with me in the third world refused to dance with my big rocks. The villages that loved me would charge two, maybe three rocks at a time with their discotheque lifestyles.

Well, I guess what I'm tryin' to say is... All your lighting and flames, fire and brimstone, thrown trees, and thrown flames, and thrown flaming trees, and villagers thrown at flaming trees, they don't count worth doo doo against a well placed brown rock with a face on it and a glowing circle above its head.

See my funky picture, It means I'm |337... NOT! But hey, still it is cool right?
