I can't wait until the hype can finally diminish. That will happen
with the PS2 launch. The people who say it blows the DC away
graphically (I'm not even talking about the people in this forum,
just general mainstreamers) will finally be able to compare the
systems. I am very confident that once people look at the better DC
games, and compare them to the better PS2 games... The DC will
impress more. We will probably hear "OMG! This doesn't look better
than the DC and it costs twice as much!! Crap!"
Obviously the hype can not be used nearly as much now that it's
here. We can compare and see the real truth of the matter. The PS2
does not blow the DC away and infact looks inferior in some ways.
Woo hoo!! Bring on the PS2 I can't wait
until a friend gets a PS2 and I can bring over my DC. He'll get out
Tekken, I will get out Soul Calibur He might have RR5,
then I can show F355. He'll show Madden 2001, I will show NFL 2K1
and hook it up for online play. He'll show NBA Live 2001 and I will
show NBA 2K1 and well.. hook it up for online play He can bring out
Unreal Tournament, and I can bring out Q3A with well... online play.
Then the realization can come that the DC not only holds up well to
the PS2 but is actually better in some ways!
But don't get all whiny on me now Sony fans, I'm well aware
that the PS2 will hold the mainstream market and sell a lot of
systems. The thing is, that now when we get people saying that crap
about the PS2 being so much better looking, blah blah. We can
actually compare stuff on each system, heh. And then yep.. The DC
can speak for itself and they can just stop all the BS claims about
the PS2.

The more PS2 buyers, the better. All the more people who can finally
see that it doesn't blow away the DC (except it's cost)

As much as it pains me to say it, PS2s are going to be flying off
the shelves the whole holiday season. the hype machine is in full
effect, and consumers everywhere are going nutty (while I play SdA).
However! let's look at the software sales in the coming months.
is there going to be a lot of GAMES flying off the shelves as well?
or DVDs? not that it really matters to Sony as they've got their
hands in both markets.
sega will do just fine, however. don't worry about that. sega.net
is a big draw as well as the whole Sega vibe that you can't get
anywhere else.

i agree cause the SNES hype was holding the Genny down till Sonic
showed them wassup graphically.just like the PS2 hype is holding the
DC sales down. with the DC & PS2 it's just not Sonic it's
Shen Mue , SC , F355 ETC.Sega should have no problem showing how
well the DC competes graphicall now that the PS2 is actually
out.

This post is just asking for it....but i will contribute..... Well
the only reason PS2's are flying off the shelves is not really hype
IMO. Its more an economy issue. Again IMO. It is a rare toy. Rare
toys sell a lot even though they could be pieces of crap. Look at
tickle me elmo. Quantities were small and even though that was a
piece of crap it still sold, and sold for a lot i might add. Now im
not saying the PS2 is a piece of crap. just that it doesnt live up
to expectation. where is the "revolution"? !!!!MY LIFE IS
FOREVER BETTER BECAUSE OF THE PS2!!!...jeez the things sony claimed
the system would be

October 26th is indeed a glorious dat for Sega. This could be looked
back upon in three years or so as the year that the Sony house of
cards started to tumble.
This could
almost be like Dec 7,1941, Sega's pearl harbor job on Sony. This date will
live in infamy in videogame history. OCt.26th,2000, the time that
Sega began it's comeback as industry leader.
Of course Pokemon could come in and wipe out everything!
This really is a time to rejoice for Sega fans!
When the fiscal-year end statements are read out in Sony
headquarters, a chill will descend the Sony boardroom.
End the system wars now!

Well, a lot people wanted to wait for the PS2's launch to get a
better idea of which console they should commit too.
Now that both are launched, doesn't mean people will stop buying
Dreamcast's, it could mean the opposite

*ahem* Just to nit-pick, you're mixing metaphors. A house of
cards cannot crumble, but it can fold. A *cookie* can crumble.
Mmm... cookies.

The PS2 is crap! If you've played it, you'd know. I had the
import and paid top dollar for it. To my dismay, it didn't offer
simple things like VGA support, a modem, or a game not possible on
other consoles. I couldn't justify keeping it for the money I paid.
I sold it for a hefty chunck of $$$ which is fueling my DC software
sales to this very day.
Couldn't be happier!

Yes indeed, it will be very interesting to see how things go now
that people can compare the two systems side by side. Will people
feel ripped off when they the PS2 graphics are no better, and in
some cases worse than DC? Or will people be to busy watching DVD's
to notice?
Maybe actually finally getting to see the games could be the
PS2's downfall? Won't a lot of people be disappointed when they see
the graphics are not even close to "movie-quality"?
Could Sony's house of cards be about to take a TUMBLE?
End the system wars now!

It depends on what standards you had for the PS2. Do I think it
totally sucks? NO. Do I think it's worth the money? NO. Why? Because
you can get a much better experience with the DC at this point.
There are tons more good games on the DC than PS2, and all the good
PS2 games that will be out are like 1-2 years away. And maybe by
then there will be some online games.
But at this point, I can play NFL 2K1 online.. NBA 2K1 online...
Quake 3 Arena online.. And then aside from the awesome online titles
we get a totally new experience with Shenmue. Grandia 2 is said to
be a very good RPG, soon PSO, Skies of Arcadia. Then we got MSR,
Lemans, and Vanishing Point (though I don't like the new overdone
reflective look
)for the racing fans. So the value of the PS2 just hasn't shown
itself yet and probably won't for abou 2 years.

Doc, your analogys are wacked.
I think you're over-reacting JcDc, BUT it's true that SEGA can
capitalize on this situation in SO MANY WAYS.
But will they? That's the question.

You know what's going to be really funny. All those lifeless people
standing in lines won't even get a PS2. At least the majority won't.
I'd love to see the look on their faces when people who've
preordered their PS2 walk right in front of the line to pick theirs
up.

Why do you plead for an end to the system wars and then proceed
to write inflammatory posts? All you do is troll constantly on this
forum and yet you seek an end to the system wars? Oh, and now that
people are afforded an opportunity to witness, for themselves, the
marked superiority of Sony's uber-console I doubt anyone in Sega is
welcoming this launch jubilantly.

Actually, the shortage is HELPING Sony - two co-workers, who don't
even CARE about games, are buying PS2's now simply because of the
insane hype this last week has incurred. Everyone thinks the PS2
must be something incredibly special because of nutjobs waiting in
lines. The PS2 is being discussed EVERYWHERE - in the news, on the
radio, in print, and the good ol' braindead consumers of America
have one thing indelibly engraved on their flaccid, TV-addled minds:
PS2 IS VERY POPULAR. And we all know what that means in the US of A:
if it's popular, it must be incredible. They buy it, denial and
cognitive dissonance kick in, and you have a mega-hit.
Welcome to a consumer-based culture. Hoo-ray!
The PS2 won't stop being in gross demand for eons, now. The 10%
of the potential purchasing audience that has some degree of
savviness will probably opt for a DC this season (chances are they
already have one, though), but the PS2 is a frickin' runaway train,
now. Take that metaphor as you will.

Actually, people kept commenting today that PS2 DOESN'T look better
than DC.
We were playing at my friends dorm (I still live at home
though...those things suck!). We left the door open and people kept
coming by and watching. EVERYONE said the same kind of things. It
doesn't look better than DC...
