im just wondering... why on earth would anyone buy this game on the
dc or UT on the ps2 when they were designed for the pc and are best
played on the pc??
Not only will you get better visuals on the pc due to higher
resolutions.... but you have the multi-player time of your life.
Now if you can't afford a pc that can handle these games then
ok...

Half Life actually looks much better on the Dreamcast than it does
on the PC.
Quake 3 looks very good, UT looks like crap. As far as who would
want them, someone who doesn't play PC games, a console gamer like
myself. I don't have the expensive hardware to play games like these
on the computer. I don't even own a 3D card. And the quality of most
PC games (imo) doesn't justify the purchase of a new computer. But
even when I had a top of the line computer I hardly ever played PC
games.
I don't like playing with a keyboard and mouse either. And spare
me the PC gamer spiel. Let bygones be bygones.

playing some games on the PC cuz the computer is doing other things
when i'm playing so it goes slow sometimes

Now you see what I was saying earlier. If Timesplitters looked like
this with those characters x20 on screen I would be impressed.
The lighting, chk out the curved surface in the 1st screen -
& this was playing at 60fps, well according to DC-UK thats the
frame rate.... power.

While this is indeed, a very solid effort, and I am happy for the
chance console gamers will now get to play this game, it does not
look better than the PC version.
Play the game on a decent PC and you will see what I mean.
Nothing against the Dreamcast version, I really hope it turns out
nice and I think a steady framerate will be one of the neat
byproducts of having it on dedicated hardware...
As for HL DC, well the original PC version is over 2 years old,
of course it will look better. If the PC version was revamped it
would look at least as good.
I am just setting the record straight, I play my Dreamcast a lot,
but my PC ROX! MUHAHAHHAHA...ok I am done.

Ryan, players will have the opportunity to play this - online too.
Initial outlay 150 notes for console, 40 notes for game & off
you go.
The PC man playing it at that res & frame rate pay's what ?
1500 maybe 2k min.
Perlease no contest.

In addition to playing with 4 people online, there are also bots. So
you essentially have more than 4 players while playing online,
although only 4 are actual people. The rest are cpu bots.

Thompson!: At what point did I even challenge the value of having a
DC version? I fully understand the opportunity it presents for
gamers who don't want to spend the money or time on their PC.
BTW, your PC doesn't have to be that nice to get Q3A running
smooth and beautiful. Assuming you need a 2000 dollar rig for every
PC game is the most common downfall of beginning PC gamers.
Lay off.

If the lag is as low as NFL2K1, then I'll be mighty impressed.
It dosen't look as good as the PC version at all, I run a 333
celeron 96 RAM and a TNT 2 Ultra and I can run mid-high options at
1024x768 and 60FPS.
TIme Splitter's and Outtrigger's eat it grapihcly, but I
skipped the PC version for this, so I hope the lag is as low as it's
susposed to be otherwise it can jump in a river.
One thing though, this is lacking a ton of detail compared to the
PC version, like the weapons have texture detail rather than
polygon, and are also blurred, the backgrounds are also blury, so
why the hell is this running at 30FPS, WTF?

The whole '4 person' only thing is a non-issue for everything except
CTF. I've had tons of fun playing Quake 3 with 4 people on a server,
and I don't see how that would change. Team DM is especially fun
with 4 people. CTF, like I said, is a lost cause with that many,
though.
And the game certainly doesn't look any better than the PC
version at 640x480 on the highest quality setting.

640x480, high-level detail at 30fps? Practically any machine
released in the last year can do that.

skrewup-
Four people on a map turns Q3 into a completely different game
than a game with 8-12 people (which is still "hella fun,
balls-to-the-wall" action). It's more of a 'prepare-for one on one
combat' by running set routes through levels and maxing out your
armor and health at all times. In a full map, there's alot more
emphasis on getting quad and and approaching typically packed areas
with the proper weaponry and getting tons of frags in short bursts,
while picking up health and armor in stride (making a run for it
doesn't work when there is 10 people on the map).
TeamDM is a totally different ballgame altogether, though.
Wait! We can't have a Q3 thread without the following!

I can start dissing Q3A some more! Rehashed, recycled crap that
id has spewed forth many a time already in different iterations!
Any of you DC owners deciding between UT and Q3A, get UT. Q3A
isn't worth the CD it was printed on! UT has better level design,
better gameplay options (Although I hear Assault got hax0red, that
sucks.), and more fun gameplay! UT r00lz, Q3A dr00lz.

Reeko: No way in hell, Quake III is a decent game, it grows old with
any depth at all, but Goldeneye was a masterpiece, Quake III isn't,
espically a port of it that looks quite a bit worse than the PC
version running at 30FPS, half-assed programming.
Now, Outtriggers will be the Dreamcast's Goldeneye, there's a
fine piece of work right there.
Good year for FPS's on consoles though, Quake III, UT, Time
Splitters, Outtriggers is coming to the US next spring though.

FGNOnline notes that this game has been pushed back until the 17th,
a week later.
I was under the impression that titles had to be finished and run
by the parent company in order to go through QA first... how does
Sega operate when it comes to giving thrd-party titles the OK?

Well, you're half-right. It's technically first party, but it's
still id's baby. From the article:
quote:
Quake III Arena was scheduled to be released on October 10, but
according to IGNDC, the FPS will now ship on October 17. When
asked about the cause of the delay, Sega's Heather Hawkins said,
"You know id...they’re perfectionists." Still, if Quake III Arena
is flawless when it ships, who can complain?

Oh, and DC owners are about to recieve the FINEST in FPS this
