This time the blue guy seems really ready to perform marvels.

Things like running at 60fps,moving fingers, casting shadows over himself(never seen before in a game!!!!) and showing people they don't need THE SORRY DVD's player(ammidetly first edit was too rude )

No need to bash the PS2 to praise the DC.

And this game has jaggies in the pics. But they look INCREDIBLE and we already know it's going to play incredible as well.

It looks like Sega has early 2001 sewn up as well with Sonic2, PSO and Daytona: Online Racing! Yay!

The 2nd pic looks amazing.

But this thread is doomed simply because you had to make those ignorant comments about the PS2.

Finally, some big pics.

However, a word of caution though. Everyone expects this one to run at 60 fps while there is ABSOLUTELY no confirmation anywhere that it does or will. I'd be happy with the major detail improvements alone, it being at 60 fps with be extra sweet, though not likely.

If you are interested.

Jet Set Radio ALSO had the shadow casting effect over themselves. THAT is very very impressive and is also very rare. Hmmmm, I think that someone has figured out an extra feature on the PowerVR.

It looks ok. I like the character designs. The textures need a lot of work, however. They're seriously lacking. More variety as well. But the game looks like it could be fun. When's the release date?

456, in your attempt to sound like some all-knowing graphix guru, you actually sound kind of silly. There are VERY few games I have seen, and since I've been playing games since 1979 I've seen a LOT, that match these textures.

I mean seriously. Don't TRY and be underwhelmed. The game looks fantastic. And if you are a gamer(as I'm sure you describe yourself as) you'd have played the first one and realize just how fantastic this second one will be. How do I know? The first one started as a Saturn product and shaped for the DC. SA2 STARTED as a DC project with Sonic Team having a lot of experience in dealing with it.

No disrespect intended but you DO sound silly. Like one of those jerks in an art museum saying Michaelangelo's work is "adequate" at best(Yes, I heard a guy say that).

Saturnman -- are you serious?

I never ever recalled hearing that SA2 would be 60 FPS, and always wanted to say something to everyone that yaps about the it running at that speed. But since everyone seems to have accepted it as fact, I figured I just missed out on something.......

I wonder what that poster is in the first picture? Looks like a wrestling promo pic featuring to chaos Hehe Looks like it says "The Space 2" -- maybe that's the name of their PPV special.

dark: i have JSR.And its characters have shadows on them from the objects in the BG.

For the first time, even NPC and moving objects in the game(such as cars) are overshadowed by objects in the BG.

And the skaters are very well lighted...but when their arms are upon their legs, their arms don't cast shadows on their legs or feet(as seen in the last SA2 pic).

And that, believe me, is quite an achievement!

Axel's car in Crazy Taxi (or whichever one has the big fins) casts a shadow onto itself, and the game runs at 60 FPS. Not sure what the big deal about it is anyway....I'd rather have a high poly count and/or better textures than characters that cast shadows onto themselves.

BTW, what is that dark rectangle on Sonic's hand in the last pic? Is that one of these famed self-casting shadows?

I dunno guys, to me it looks not much better than the first game. (Which also looked good) but I agree that the textures aren't the best out there and I can definately see room for improvement. For some reason everyone keeps putting the visuals of this game on a pedestal and I while it looks good, I can't see what is so about it. Maybe I am missing what is so improved about the visuals int his game to the 2-year old Sonic Adventure 1... Someone care to explain?

At E3, when Sega debuted SA2 in movie form, it was obvious(well, obvious to people who can distinquish 30fps from 60fps) that the scenes that were shown from the game were running at 60fps. Either that day or the day later(I don't remember) I spotted Yuji Naka watching people play Samba De Amigo(yes, he there). I asked "Will the final version of SA2 run at 60fps?" To which he
responded "Maybe" with a smile. So, that's what I know on the subject.

I'm offering my opinion. Some of the textures seem to be low res, and the diversity of colors is disappointing. I'm also turned off by the suburban settings in the first pic. I hope that's but for a fleeting moment and not the primary locale in the game. I had no idea the requisite response was hysterical euphoria.

border: in the first DC days NEC showed some fake pics about a monster breeding game.

They showed very complex monsters in an arena. They were too good to be on DC,but at that time none could tell it since DC wasn't even out!!

Anyway i remember reading a post on DCtech pages, made by a programmer, saying that those pics were surely fake since the monsters were too complex and because they casted shadows over themselves!!

PS:Crazy taxy has this feature. But you have to admit that two standing fins aren't comparable to moving head and arms shadowing a moving/stretching body!

And that dark rectangle seems like an error caused by a complex/realtime algoritme

Well it's obvious you're offering an opinion, but to me I feel that your opinion is intentionally subdued(which you seem to reserve for all DC screenshots).

Annnnnnnyway, I know this game will simply be amazing...like all Sonic Team games.

I saw the video at E3 and it didn't really look 60 FPS to me. But then again, the cuts between sequences were so quick and jumpy I honestly doubt anyone could say for sure. Can video even run at 60 FPS? Regardless, more power to 'em if it goes that fast.....I dunno if it's possible or not.

Actually in all fairness, volume shadows (which is what modifier volumes are used for), make it pretty trivial to do a lot of things, including environment casting shadow on dynamic objects and vice versa. Self shadowed static objects are also not that difficult to do with the same method, and have been done before DC too.
But an animated character shadowing itself is a different feat., and usually quite expensive. So if this is indeed in game (I will believe it when I see it move), it is quite impressive indeed.

As for the rest regarding these visuals, I pretty much agree with Folken.

There is no need to try and prove about about the ps2 each time you post a message.

Just to help Folken's argument:

Took hi-res comparable pics from both games. The difference is in the small details. Though if SA2 is indeed running at 60 fps then this 120% improvement, kinda like Saturn VF2 was to Saturn VF1 (Remix).

Bottom line, this is kind of a testament of how gorgeous the original SA was. The sequel has some big shoes to fill.

P.S. Wonder if pic wars can be generated from games from the same series running on the same hardware...

Looks about the same as the first sonic and since the first one looked pretty good thats not a bad thing.
All of the Genesis Sonic games looked almost identical so I don't expect this game to look much different then Sonic Adventure 1.

Sonic from Blast City said he's played SA2 and that it does indeed run at 60fps. I beleive him because he's periodically leaked hints about the likes of VF4, Daytona and SA2 long before they were announced.

BTW, looking at Saturnman's comparison pics, a few improvments to SA2 are obvious to me. Of course there are the volumetric shadows and increased poly counts in the character models. Additionally, while the texture quality looks pretty much the same (AWESOME), it seems SA2 has better filtering. Unlike SA1, you don't get those obvious lines of blurriness (bilinear filtering, I presume?) along the ground textures in SA2.

If there ever was a gross graphical annoyance about DC hardware, this is it. Crazy Taxi also has it.

I too noticed that SA2 seems to have eliminate it. Doesn't seem like an unavoidable flaw like the blurriness of all N64 games. Many early DC games were clean from the get-go.

Wow the use of colors in those pics are very rich in my opinion. I think the game will be a welcome addition to my library. Personally I enjoyed the first SA more than any Sonic since the first Sonic on Genesis. The move into 3-D was well handled and long overdue in my opinion (and this is coming from a 2-D fan, Sonic just got a little rehashed for my tastes).

Does anyone remember that movie poster ad near the outside entrance to Casinopolis? It was a movie poster ad for "Chao in Space".

In that first picture, right at the top of the yellow house, you can see another movie poster ad, onlt this time the movie being advertised is "Chao in Space 2"! I don't think it's a wrestling ppv, border. =P

Looks great. Although, I agree that it doesn't look that much better than the original -- which isn't a bad thing.

I thought the first looked cool, but there were two thing that I really didn't like:

1. The pathetic collision detection in the cut-scenes. When Robotnik catches a chaos emerald (or whatever it's called), the thing isn't even touching his hands.
2. Textures close to the camera are very sharp, yet those in the distance look very blurry like those in a bad N64 game, without any smooth transition.

Umm, Quake 3 had shadows cast over yourself when you turned stencil buffer shadows on, and ESPN Xgames Snowboarding for the PS2.
