To make perfect port of Virtua Fighter X and other Naomi 2 games, Sega decided to release "graphic upgrade kit" for DC. The info. on this kit is scarce, but it will definitely improve DC's graphic power. That means... if you install this upgrade kit, your DC will be able to display Naomi 2's graphic.
Sega of Japan will likely release this kit for less than 9,800 yen (95 USD).

I'll believe it when it's announced on a bigger named site. But if it's true, then it's fine with me. 95 isn't a bad price to be able to run a new Virtua Fighter perfectly. This will also allow the DC to keep up with PS2, GC, XBox graphics.

IF its true then great for the DC but honesty I think its BS.If its true then Sega would have to STRONGLY market/advertise that thing everywhere.

For Sega sake they better hope this doesn't go they way of the 32X.If they did something like pack it in a game like Nintendo packed in the 4MB ram cart in DK64 then I see it doing fairly well but if you have to buy it seperatly then I don't see it living that long.

I say this is fake, SEGA can't be this foolish, even a 6 year old knows after the second time touching a hot stove hurts. Why not just push the DC to its max and release it on there? T3 was hardly graphically arcade perfect, but played like it. More false news story from countries no one ever payed attention to before, for gaming news that is.

If this is true which I also doubt how they going to install the thing? Its not like the DC have interchangeable chips and Sega should know this won't be supported much since its an add-on.

if this is true i expect the next batch of DC's to just incorporate it for the same price as an average DC.heck their already losing money on Seganet and giving out 150 checks.they were ready to give out 200 dollar ones.

if this is true then the DC is going back up to $199.sega might as well make this a rebate thing for people who buys a new big name game.like VFX or sign up for seganet and get the upgrade for free.

I'm with vertigo. How would you install the thing? Though I would pay $95 for an arcade-perfect VF4 alone, what makes this any different from the 32X? Maybe if the installation is clean, and it's supported with plenty of great software, the unthinkable could occur: a successful console add-on.

Not just VFX, if it can make the DC run Planet Harriers correctly, then that's a big reason to pick it up. The game looks and sounds awesome.

Not happening, that Korean site must be hurting for news. The fastest expansion port on the DC runs at 25Mhz and is 16-bits wide. Fast enough for a graphical upgrade? Not even close. Any "upgrade" would be a complete Naomi2 that connects with the Dreamcast for output. ¥9800 is a ridiculous price for SH-4, CLXx2, 32MB main RAM, 32MB video RAM and 32MB for vertex data.

Console upgrades don't work unless designed from the get-go like N64's RAM expansion. The rumored cart upgrade for VF3 Saturn never happened, the PSX-TypeC for Tekken 3 never happened. Naomi2 upgrade for DC will most likely never surface.

Yeah.

This is complete BULL SH*T.

There will be no Naomi2 upgrade for Dreamcast. That is close to impossible.
The Dreamcast cannot be upgraded with
better or more processors. Or RAM.

Dreamcast can only be expanded with
network cards/zipdrive/dvd-drive/mouse/
microphone/memory cards & maybe a
harddrive. But no upgrades can be added.
Dreamcast is a closed console as far as
processors & RAM is concerned.

To add fuel to the fire. When the DC was still young and PS2 had just been unveiled, Sega made a lot of noise about the DC being upgradable. Apparantly the Japanese launch model was DC ver.1.0, the 56k modem equipped model was ver.1.1 and that it could go up to ver.4.X. Since then however nothing more has been said about this supposed upgradability.
This could mean Sega scrapped the plans, or kept them quiet so no to hurt the sales of the current version.

As for Sega going the add-on route again, I think that it is possible to look at it 2 ways. Either Sega are making the same mistake again, or Sega have learned from their past mistakes and know what not to do now.

That all I have to say on the matter.

This is the same as the rumor that popped up for VF3 on Saturn and Tekken 3 on PSX. Just forget you ever heard of it people. But knowing the Sega rumors, as long as it sounds bad for them, people will run with it.

When SEGA said the DC was upgradeable, I don't think they ever meant the graphics.

They meant DVD capability, broadband, and other plug-ins.

This thread is a waste of our time -- a complete lie.

The Saturn VF3 upgrade was confirmed by several sources, including a SOA rep about a year ago, former head of Sega Europe Andrew Dee, and some reps at Core Designs who was looking to use it for Tomb Raider 2. But Sega deemed it too expensive to release.

Hypothetically . . .

This thing cost ~$95 . . . well if Sega takes off the case, the parts are probably ~$85.

Now what if Sega sells it w/ the DC (as 1 system). $149 + $85 = $235.

$235 for a system arguably more powerful than the PS2 or GC and is fully backwardsly compatible w/ the DC

To bad it will never happen

The DC isn't upgradeable in terms of system performance. Deal with it.

However, Sega should consider releasing Naomi 2 in a limited fashion, at a premium price (ala Neo Geo) and release the software in GDROM format. The benefit of buying this system? Perfect Naomi 2 games at home, and it'll be backwards compatible with DC games.

A Naomi 2 shouldn't be that much more expensive, only 1 additional CLX2 chip, the T&L chip and additional RAM.

If Sega decides to repeat the 32X fiasco again, they are officially retarded. This is a stupid idea, and it would never, ever work. A lot of things sound good on paper, but this idea, which I'm sure is just a bunch of BS, has bomb written all over it.

I don't think 10 million polys with 6 light sources is better than PS2 and GC which supposedly push more polys with more light sources.

Str8Shooter: Supposedly is the key word there. Also, the 10 million figure is being terribly conservative. The system can push at least 12 million with that many lights. But anyway...

This won't happen. Just wishful thinking and an effort to get more hits to a website.

We don't need to pay any attention to
silly rumors from some unknown website
like this guys

I as said, the Dreamcast is NOT upgradable
in the graphics or processor area. DC CAN
be expanded with DVD or Cable modem or
Zipdrive or any number of expansions.

But it was established long ago that DC
cannot be upgraded.

The Saturn VF3 upgrade
was true. The Saturn could be upgraded like the Genesis was with the 32X. Saturn, like the Genesis, had a slot for upgrades. The cartridge slot in Saturn's case. The Dreamcast has no such cartridge slot.

Again, the Dreamcast cannot and will not
be upraded with Naomi2 hardware or any other processer upgrade or RAM upgrade. That's right, the N64 could use a RAM expansion.
The Dreamcast cant even have that.

There is no place to put a processor or
RAM upgrade on Dreamcast.
It's impossible

SEGA has been developing a new console beyond Dreamcast for several years. That
is what we would see next from SEGA.
