Yesterday, I was sitting in class before the professor came in
talking to a friend. I brought up Silpheed on the PS2. I was a big
fan of the SegaCD version, so I want this one too! Anyways, two guys
sitting behind me suddenly chimed in.
"Dude, PS2 is gonna suck ass. Get Dreamcast and NFL2k1, that game
is tight! I kicked the **** outta some guy over the net yesterday.
blah blah blah" - something like that
Of course, I told him that I have had one since day 1 but that is not
the point. The way he said it was what stuck out. I have never heard
anyone say anything like that about anything BUT Playstation. I keep
hearing about it. The ONLY game system everyone played before WAS
PSX. Now, I keep hearing Dreamcast mentioned. This is great for
Sega! I wonder how this is in other areas?

Yeah, that's weird I have been hearing some people stick up for DC
lately that were not "Sega loyalists." It's pretty cool, I hope
Dreamcast gets really popular, and right now it is looking to go
that way. I mean how can you go wrong with Shenmue, Jet Grind Radio,
PSO, and so many more.

I totally agree! I really would like to see them gain popularity! I
have been a Sega supporter through all times (even the hardest and
darkest days of the Saturn), so I am hoping that they will FINALLY
get back in the limelight.

I was in EB the other day when they were really busy, and noticed
lots of people looking at DC games- more than PSX, N64, or PS2 (they
had the display boxes out already, and nobody seemed to care). I was
pretty surprised.
I really hope the DC takes off in a major way. It's quite
possibly the best system I've ever bought, and I'd hate to see it
die because of the masses mindlessly buying PS2. Not that I have
anything against the PS2, I just don't think it'll ever match the
DC's awesomeness. It's funny that I like the DC so much, because in
the past I was majorly anti-Sega.. Boy was I wrong

nowhere and says, " Wow! Is that NFL2k1? That game rocks!" Hehe
pretty cool to know that alot of people have Dreamcast...

another cool thing is that a lot of sony b*tches arent that
hard to convert!
I did one the other day with SEGA SWIRL of all games!! when I
showed it to him, he was like "wo! no wonder they give it
away!!" but when he actually tried it, he started to like it!

Are you sure he wasn't a Sega fanboy? I would be in total shock
to hear a casual gamer say something like that. I thought mainstream
gamers all hate Sega?

opa: it DOES happen. People have been surprised by Sega's success,
and I guess there is a belief that the DC is "cool" (or at least
cool enough) now. As for the PS2, the launch announcement has indeed
had some negative ramifications... not necessarily because it means
anything in the long term for distribution, but because of the
perception of Sony; all of a sudden, they're screwups, and nobody
wants to associate with that. That doesn't mean the PS2 launch won't
be a success, but the perception of the PS2 and DC vis a vis each
other has likely changed, and possibly permanently. We'll see when
madden comes out; it DOES look better, but laymen may be turned off
by the slower, heavier mechanics of the game vs. PSX madden and
NFL2K1. We'll have to see, I guess.
Perhaps this means the DC userbase will reach critical mass after
all? (Five mil would probably do it)

Hmm. I hope things don't reverse as far as people just ignoring all
the other consoles besides the Dreamcast.

Just like the Sega Genesis, the DC is becoming the "cool" console to
own.
Sega just needs to have better advertising to speed up the
"conversion" process.

I don't think we should jump to conclusions. I'd love to have the DC
take off and challenge for the number one spot, but everytime I go
to Software Etc I hear 5-6 people who are still trying to pre-order
a PS2. The PS2 is still the hot buy, but it's just not nearly as
'God-like' as it was before.

Well I dunno if Sega is gaining ALOT of momentum but I've seen some
signs that theyre on their way back to mainstream auccess.
Theres been times where I've seen parents buying DCs for their
kids-and if kids want one then somethings going on.
walking into Software Etc. and overhearing a couple of teens
asking how much the DC is directly after playing NFL2k1 at the kiosk
machine
Bsing with a cashier in the electronics section at Target. After
explaining to me that they were going to carry only 6 Psx2 they were
stocking a ton of new DCs since they were selling quite well as of
late.
A few of my friends asking about the DC library of games, when a
year ago they were content with waiting for the psx2. Hint-20 dollar
games will break down the strongest of nay sayers i guess.
And the stongest hint of all-the software Etc near me. Theyve
been encouraging people to buy a Sega DC since its cheaper and has
alot of great games. Ofcourse these stores don't really care about
Sega but none the less theyre pushing the Sega system alot more
since they certainly won't be making as mauch money with the Sony
shortages.
I'm really loking forward to sega becoming more mainstream
though. I mean hres to more Akklaim and Tomb Raider games..err yeah
thats it.

life and say "I'm back,I'm ready for my new Tattoo. And her name is
Gaming. Now it's time to make it permanent." You have been
through all the temporary 15 minutes of Flash. You will have come to
realize that you've been served fast food games and disposable
heroes for so long that you've somehow forgotten What is Real and
What is Not. And you know what the man behind the counter will
say? We knew you'd be back.

Awww, I've got warm fuzzies after reading these posts...
Anyway, I hope Sega succeeds as well. One of my friend's
girlfriend is actually thinking about getting one after playing some
games on my DC recently. How cool is that. This machine has the
power to convert people not only from loyalty to other systems, but
also non-gamers as well.
Anyway, I want to see Sega, Sony, NGC, and X-box all succeed, but
I currently am rooting for Sega the most b/c of the "DC is dead"
syndrome that was talked about so much until recently. I
wholeheartedly hope that you guys are right and legions of Sony fans
will buy a DC to hold them over.

I really hope so, Sega need some great ads to take advantage of the
situation.

I got back from the movies awhile ago and they played that PS2
Advert. Well, along with the horrible mess of Graphics (Madeen 2001
looks nowhere near as good as NFl2k1, at least not on the Big
Screen) with obvious Jagginess (you can really see it that bad).
2 people behind my friend and I said "eh, just more Playstation
games..." one of them asked, "you mean Playstation 2?" he as like,
"Nah, I think they're Playstation, they don't look good enough to be
anymore than that..."
A couple of kids in front wondered why Sony is ever bothering and
the the end of the Ad, someone started a 'boooing' game and everyone
just went "Booooooo, whatever!" and someone screamed out "Sega!" and
then people laughed.
Anyways, people didn't buy into that ad, they thought the games
looked equal to PSX1 ('cept for SSX). The biggest disappointment was
the choppyness of Madden 2001 and it was VERY Bland, like it had no
true lighting/shading. I am not sure if the projector itself caused
that, but the rest of the Ads/ Features looked good.
