I find it hard to believe that a company with so much at risk and so
much money has screwed up like this. My bet is that this is Sony's
marketing.
BTW: What's with the PS2's before and after shots? Bouncer before
and after is an atrocious deception to gamers IMO.

Listen to Benny Moto. Don't be stupid. PS2 is great when have better
games next year. Then you have Dreamcast and PS2!

Seeing as how it negatively impacted their stock, I'd say such a
stunt would be stupid. Also, there are probably over 500,000
pre-orders alone for PS2, so upon hearing that news, I bet most
people and retailers will just "give up" and focus on something else
(ahem, Dreamcast).

Yeah, stock got hurt bad. I think they are telling the truth.
About the Bouncer pics, I find them to look the same. The first
batch had tons more blurring wich make the pics look vastly
different. So if you take the blurring away, I think they would look
the exact same.

:Ignores Bouncer comment:
Yeah, this is too massive to simply be a PR stunt. Quite a few
game company's stocks are going down and retailers are panicking.
Many retailers are ordering extra DCs to fill-in the PS2 void.
That's not my idea of a marketing stunt.

If it's a marketing stunt, it's gone TERRIBLY wrong. Saying "we
don't have as many as we thought" is one thing. It worked for
Nintendo. Saying "we only produced half, and we're selling a third
of that OURSELVES" is nucking futs.

Yeah, I actually withdraw. I just read a story over at ZDNET, and it
doesn't seem fabricated at all.
Bojangles - you're in denial about the Bouncer.

No you are being silly. Bouncer looks awesome. I have seen
the latest build and it is like nearly done. Don't worry. It will be
one of the best looking games anywhere once it is released. You
really have to see it in motion. It is completely 3d and it is so
smooth. Smoother and nicer looking then Spikeout in the arcade and
we now how that looks. Don't worry lunchbox.

mjolnir: crappy job, if you ask me. Lisa was way more realistic, and
they made her in the 60's.
Just goes to show how far AI has to go..

actually, if it is all hype, sony would have and COULD have notified
bigger 3rd parties like EA to get approval for a stunt like this. I
wouldn't put it past sony. Imagine they have 1.2 million AT LAUNCH
or something close to that other half shows up. You know how happy
people would get? That stock would shoot right back up. this tactic
also pretty much give investors a few days or weeks to buy stock at
a lower price only to have it go up immediately.
On the flipside, sega best be prepairing an all out ad blitz and
earn bigtime off of sonys mistake. If they don't i'd be pissed at
BOTH companies for being stupid. Sonys mistake could potentially put
another 2 million DCs in homes. maybe more. sega better get those
commercials rollin.

If it's a marketing ploy, it'd be the worst one in the history of
gaming.
Sony would be out of their mind to give the competition a sniff.
Once this whole debacle comes to a head on November 30, or October
26th for you Americans, people will look for alternatives.
Mmmmmm...NFL2K1.
While I remember, how do you Americans feel the DC is competing
over there? In Australia, it has potential, but no one reads/hears
about it. A shame.

No 3rd party I know of would voluntarily let their stocks take a
beating for a marketing ploy, Kawshen.
Besides, then everyone will start accusing Sony of copying
Nintendo again.
